‘Thelma & Louise’ Featured on Official Poster for 79th Festival de Cannes

Cannes, France – April 22, 2026 – The 79th edition of the Festival de Cannes has unveiled its official poster, featuring the iconic heroines of Thelma & Louise, marking 35 years since the film’s original release.

The poster highlights a black-and-white still from Ridley Scott’s 1991 classic, showing Susan Sarandon as Louise looking directly at the viewer while Geena Davis as Thelma gazes toward the horizon. The pair are seated in a 1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible, capturing the film’s enduring themes of freedom, rebellion, and female solidarity.

Directed by Ridley Scott and written by Callie Khouri, Thelma & Louise was first released on May 20, 1991. The film quickly became a cultural landmark, redefining the road movie genre with a female-driven narrative at a time when such perspectives were rare in mainstream cinema.
